Tan slice

  • 180 grams of butter (softened)
  • 90 grams of white sugar
  • ½ teaspoon of vanilla essence
  • 300g flour
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • ½ cup of chocolate chips
  • 400 grams of condensed milk
  • 100 grams of butter
  • 2 tablespoons of golden syrup

Cream butter, white sugar, and vanilla essence. Stir in the flour and baking powder until combined. Line a slice tin with baking paper and press two-thirds of the mixture into the bottom. Mix the remainder with chocolate chips and set aside.

Add the condensed milk, butter, and golden syrup to a small pot and heat slowly, stirring until it becomes a thick caramel. Pour the caramel over the base, and crumble the chocolate chip mixture over the top.

Bake at 180°C for 20 minutes and chill before slicing.
