bedrock-tv will be an implementation of the Bedrock computing system that runs on a custom HDMI dongle. This project is currently just a collection of ideas.
Motivation
Wouldn’t it be great if an entire computer could fit inside something the size of a ChromeCast dongle? You could borrow any television set, plug the dongle into an HDMI port, and connect a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse to the dongle to have a fully functioning Bedrock system. This idea came to me while staying in a motel room that had a wall-mounted television.
Quick thoughts
- Takes USB power from the television, battery power would probably be a nuisance and wouldn’t last long enough.
- Provides Bluetooth for connecting peripherals and WiFi for connecting to a network (likely using something like the ESP32 series of microcontrollers)
- Contains a microSD card slot for storage
- Sound can be sent to the television via HDMI (once the tone and sampler devices have been designed)
- Could run a multi-tasking emulator, so that programs can be positioned on-screen in windows and data piped between them.
